What's Happened

In response to the ongoing threat landscape, Salesforce has implemented usage restrictions for Connected Apps. Most users will be unable to access an uninstalled or blocked app. There are some exceptions, though. Members of the System Administrator profile can continue access Connected Apps as usual and users that had already authorized a connected app can continue to use the app.

These Salesforce articles provide a good overview and discussion of the changes:

How Do These Changes Impact SOQL Studio?

SOQL Studio uses a connected app for its OAuth connections. A user's ability to authorize a connection to an Org depends upon the permissions they have in the org:

  • Members of the Systems Administrator profile should see no interruption in their ability to authorize a connection to an Org regardless of the SOQL Studio connected app's current status (not present, blocked, uninstalled and installed) in that org
  • Members of other profiles will no longer be able to authorize a connection to an org if the SOQL Studio connected app is not "Installed" in the org, unless their profile or a permission set they are a member of includes the "Approve Uninstalled Connected Apps" or "Use Any API Client" permissions.

I'm Not a System Administrator. How Can I Connect SOQL Studio to My Org?

If the SOQL Studio connected app is listed on the Connected App OAuth Usage page in the org you want to connect to, and there is an Install button next to it, have a System Administrator click the install button.

If it is not listed or the system administrator does not want to install the connected app, request that you be granted the "Approve Uninstalled Connected Apps" or "Use Any API Client" permission.Once either is done, you will be able to create an OAuth connection from SOQL Studio to the org.

Starting with SOQL Studio v2025.2.311, the option of using a custom External Client App to connect with will be available. Refer to the documentation provided with v2025.2.311 for details.
